Our Story

We just started in 2023 and there are only 2 of us so far, Gary Pratt and Ryan Hinton. We don’t have any background in gunsmithing, metallurgy, or even machining. We are actually both arborists. We just shoot a lot and deeply enjoy being part of the 2A community.

We live in Utah where thousand yard plus ranges are easy to come by (relatively speaking), so naturally we got into long range shooting. Like most shooters, we don’t have unlimited funds, so we thought we would try to make a practical solution for rifle weights. In the process of design and build, we decided that we could scale up and bring a product to market that was less expensive than anything else like it out there.

Benchsteady produces weights made of different metals - steel and brass, and using different methods - sand cast or machined.

Steel sand cast is the least expensive option to manufacture, and it is not as precisely formed as machining but because of this, we can keep our costs down.

Machining takes more time and cost to create, but the end result is more flawless and smooth. Machining is critical for most gun parts so they function well, but in this case, the point is just adding weight to a rifle so sand cast works great!

With both options available we can meet your needs no matter what your next rifle built looks like.
